Family-Based Immigration

Attorney dedicated to family unity in Minneapolis

As a Minnesota immigration lawyer, I am a strong advocate of keeping families together.  So, I am happy to help by guiding both you and your relatives through the multi-step immigration processes for entrance into and living in the United States.  I can help you to obtain lawful permanent residency, appropriate non-immigrant visas, and even U.S. citizenship.

Legal residency

To attain lawful permanent residency based on family connection, you must have a relative who is either a citizen of the United States or a lawful permanent resident in this country.  Citizens may petition for the following relatives:

  • Husband or wife
  • Unmarried or married children of any age
  • Parents
  • Brother or sister

Legal permanent residents may petition for the following relatives:

  • Husband or wife
  • Unmarried son or daughter of any age

Nonimmigrant visas

My legal practice in Minneapolis provides services for temporary visitors, workers, and their families to obtain visas, change their status, or extend their stays in the United States:

  • Visitors for business or pleasure
  • Students
  • Spouses and fiancés or fiancées of U.S. citizens

Naturalization and claims to U.S. citizenship

U.S. citizenship is a treasured goal for many immigrants.  It is awarded at birth within the territory of the United States to children of U.S. citizen parents and by naturalization.

Naturalization is the process by which the United States awards citizenship to foreign nationals after they fulfill the requirements established by the United States Congress in the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), including:

  • A period of continuous residence and physical presence in the United States
  • Residence in a particular state prior to filing
  • An ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Knowledge and understanding of U.S. history and government
  • Good moral character
  • Attachment to the principles of the U.S. Constitution
  • Favorable disposition towards the United States

If you are already a citizen, even though you are not certain of your claim, I work with you to obtain documentation certifying your citizenship.

Dedication.  Tenacity.  Personal service.
